Though there’s a separate discussion to be had about the relevance of such a policy these days, the fact remains that short business trips which do not include a Saturday night stay can prove eye-wateringly expensive when it comes to the airfare costs of such itineraries.

It’s long been known that so-called ‘IT’ or Inclusive Tour fares can offer a means of avoiding the Saturday night stay requirement of cheaper fares, and also the punitive cost of non-Saturday-night-bridging ones. The downside has been finding them.

The BA website now includes full functionality for the booking of IT packages however, and the savings for readers could be significant – or at the very least a prohibitively expensive trip might now be practical.

For example, a random 3-night midweek trip to Hong Kong prices up at £1721 return in World Traveller for the flight alone, purchased from the BA website.

However, the same flights, including accomodation at the Regal Riverside Hotel in Sha Tin come in at just £721 when booked together. Upgrading to a bed & breakfast rate at The Peninsula would still cost only £1251 – a saving of £470 on the airfare alone.

The pill is sweetened yet further for British Airways Executive Club members, who will not only earn miles and tier points (albeit at the discounted levels appropriate to the discounted fare booking class if booking in World Traveller) but will also earn an up to 10,000 BA Mile bonus for buying a flight and hotel package:

    Euro Traveller 1,000
    Club Europe 5,000
    World Traveller 5,000
    World Traveller Plus 5,000
    Club World 10,000
    First 10,000

Paying with a BA AmEx will, of course, earn even more miles.
