I’ve just made some bookings at Marriott and Avis through my Debit Card (visa), all the transactions were prepaid and they got accepted,

I was searching about this issue and i found out that in some forums, Avis is charging you 500$ if you rent the car with Debit card, and when you return the car they are giving you those money back, is this thing actually happens? Does anyone of you has any experience?

I suppose rules can differ from state to state in the u.s and it may depend on your insurence cover level . As minumum cover differs also from state to state

Personally I prefare the protection a credit card ( in uk) might afford for items over £100
There is very little protection when using a debit card
