Sad to see this once great airline make a fool of itself !

Well, you have to hand it to them that at least it has got people talking – and even the Hoxton’s £1 deals usually make their site fall over too.

    Anyway, the promo-landing page at

    – seems to be holding up now that the initial brouhaha has died down.

Not sure if there’s anything startling fare-wise though: Glasgow to Heathrow; Belfast to Heathrow; Aberdeen to Birmingham; Edinburgh to Manchester, and Manchester and Heathrow to Moscow are probably the best deals.

All thoroughly underwhelming. I don’t really understand the promotion. The routes are those predominantly operated for business travellers, who have to travel anyway and therefore if a fare is £40 or £80 is neither here nor there. I can’t imagine many leisure travellers, while deciding on a last minute deal, will be opting for Beirut for their summer holidays.

Berlin is about the most attractive option, but who is this promotion really aimed at?

I dont see how this is a bargain anyway, considering I flew on BMI to Khartoum via Beirut in April and paid £398.00 and they now want £388 to Beirut only……..

Ok I can shed a little light on a few points here.

    1. Last Friday of every month they will run this promo. Calling it bmiFriday.
    2. Each bmiFriday will offer different deals.
    3. They have hinted an upcoming bmiFriday will offer a business class/full eco sale.

I gained this info by following them on Twitter. Would also be interested to know if any of the regular forum users here use Twitter?

Frankly a disappointing load of cack.

As predicted, the fares were underwhelming, their servers crashed:

    http://twitter.com/flybmi/status/17006878444

and the fares weren’t even properly loaded for purchase until an hour into the promo.

They even made their check in staff dress like gimps with unflattering t-shirts asking “how far will you go this Friday”. I resisted the temptation to scrawl “not far with those prices” underneath in black marker pen.

The usual shoddy IT from this not-long-for-the-world Lufthansa offshoot. Well, at least they had a lovely afternoon larking about on the lawn at company HQ, Donington Hall:

    No wonder nothing works. Sad.

bmi are in a mess. I tried to book some flights on the first bmi Friday. Of the 4 flights I booked, only one worked and it took over 3 weeks to take the money and confirm the booking. The others failed despite me getting confirmation from them. Their overseas call centre aren’t worth complaining to unless you want to feel even more frutstrated by the experience. Anyway, the 2nd bmi Friday was a real disappointment, with very little on offer. So I suspect it’s a failed experiment from BMI. Go one BMI. Admit it’s a failure and give it up!!

Brace yourselves: bmi Friday is back this week (from noon on 27th August).

bmi are reporting a 98% uplift in sales on the last bmi Friday; though of course they make no comment about figures either side of the promotional afternoon.

Indeed, there is also a good deal of difference between 98% of not a lot and 98% of lots and lots……

Nevertheless you must admit to the success of bmi Friday from a marketing and sales perspective. They have cunningly tapped into the “pay day” buzz and converted sales. We have no knowledge on how varied daily flight sales are for bmi over a 30 day period (ceteris paribus). Ergo a reported 98% increase in sales I believe should be given due credit.

It’s that day again, though bmi are this time offering double miles on all bmi Friday bookings made between the offer times of 12pm and 5pm when using the link from their email:
