asiabarsParticipantAgreed that the bars in Blok M are certainly “eye openers”
Other more upscale suggestions would be
Jackrabbit- http://www.asia-bars.com/2011/03/jackrabbit-sleek-design-for-new-restaurant-bar-in-jakarta-indonesia/and B.A.T.S. at the Shangri La Jakarata

TerryMcManus24Participantasiabars …
Since this is a Travel oriented forum it might just be worth considering including some of the better airport bars,FF Lounges and restaurants.Few years ago I had a Thai TG Gold card amongst others.. and always attempted to visit any connected gin joints wherever I went. This went back to the days of B Cals “Chieftian Club” when working in Nigeria and first time I used it was to gain entry to their shared facility at LA (about 30 years ago)…and it was Dom Peri everywhere…great idea.
My latest card is Ettis Silver and since I am off next week via their T4 lounge at Heathrow,Bill Bentleys at Abu Dhabi (used to be one in Don Muang) and on R/T expect an hour or 3 in TGs Royal Orchid Lounge at Suwanna.(seems they share it) would suggest related opinions could be considered.Admit there are places to avoid but generally I recon that most of the main international Airlines have finally got their fingers out with welcome improvements.
Suwanna,Manila,Hong Kong (used to be Kai Tak)Singers Changi and even what used to be a bit of a joke Pon-Chen-Tong has improved out of all recog..although believe that “Aquinos” in RoP is still a disaster but might just have a decent watering hole?
Incid just heard that the Bulls Head near Villa .Suk Rd has now re opened as the Royal Oak (with free beer .)…no..thats pushing it …

asiabarsParticipantGreat suggestion Terry…
TG Lounge at BKK tends to get over-crowded and not much in the way of drinks. I think CX do a good job with their Marco Polo lounges – both at HKG and some other airports in Asia. HKG also has a “Heineken” bar at T2, and a Pruniers Seafood & Caviar Bar.
SGP (Changi) of course sets a high standard- apart from the airline lounges, there are some Harry’s Bar outlets, a TIGER Lounge, and a Sports bar, the best selection being in T3.
Manila old terminal remains a disaster – I was there couple of weeks ago.And your info re Bulls Head is spot on…now owned/managed by same group that have Robin Hood on the corner. Not sure how they are differentiating…

asiabarsParticipantSo many contenders for the best rooftop bars….
Personally, I think Sirocco is overrated & overpriced- and not in the same league as Vertigo & Moon Bar.
Some others that are more than strong contenders-1. Sir Elly’s Terrace at the Peninsula Shanghai
http://www.asia-bars.com/2012/10/sir-ellys-terrace-rooftop-bar-at-the-peninsula-shanghai/2. SKYE Rooftop Restaurant & Lounge in Jakarta

http://www.asia-bars.com/2012/06/park-society-restaurant-bar-sublime-culinary-experiences-at-the-sofitel-so-bangkok/5. CAFE GREY DELUXE at UPPER HOUSE Hong Kong

TerryMcManus24ParticipantFinally made it to Soi 33/1 and would confirm location of the trio of farang family friendly pubs and restaurants as previously mentioned.
The Robin H,The Dubliner and the Royal Oak (x Bulls Head) are all within walking or rather staggering distance of each other and with the good old Londoner a short walk down Suk Road its all becoming as said rather family oriented..nothing dodgy.
The Denny Corner is also still there (basic beer bar) and at 60 Bt a throw was packed out the other night with mostly non Thai punters/customers.
Also another that I would recco is the New Mermaids Hotels Admirals lounge.Soi 29 (northside)
Went to an offical function last week and had a great evening up on the Upper Deck .Must visit again…pics…..

CarlaDevisParticipantAsia is the largest place where all types of bars are available and magnificent too. I have explored Sirocco, which is one of the world’s top 10 restaurants with amazing views. It never fails to leave one mesmerized with a fabulous view of Bangkok. Moreover the breathtaking view, one more attraction it offers the Sky Bar of cylindrical shape, which is continuously changing its color. It was my awesome experience.

asiabarsParticipantA couple of other rooftop bar & restaurants worth a visit in Bangkok are-
ABOVE ELEVEN- on top of Fraser Suites in Sukhumvit Soi 11.
Great views from 33rd floor- and excellent Peruvian / Japanese cuisinehttp://www.asia-bars.com/2013/01/above-eleven-rooftop-bar-restaurant-bangkok/
And OCTAVE- 49th floor rooftop bar & lounge of newly opened Bangkok Marriott- also on Sukhumvit Road.

Have to agree, that this place has an amazing view. Have been once, and really enjoyed it for the views, but would not feel need to go back again. It is in the Lebua Hotel. £20 for two drinks. Is the worlds highest outside bar restaurant. A famous scene from “Hangover 2” was there. Not many over 30’s there, when I was there last week. Go once for the experience.

MarcusUKParticipantThe Muse hotel (Part of the Accor group, M Gallery), has a terrific rooftop bar, Speakeasy. Within this, is “The Blind Pig”, a cigar bar and spirit venue.
Had the pleasure of staying at The Muse a few weeks ago, and with my Le Club Accor Platinum Card, (contrary to most BT experiences) had a wonderful upgrade to a Duplex Suite on the top floors, under the bars!
I believe it won the award for “Best Bar in Asia” by Harpers this / last year?

I agree that the experience of any hotel or bar is subjective.
It has to grab our own senses of something appealing, and stand out as perhaps different.
I think this Colonial feel hotel, certainly does, unique in many senses.14 Oct 2013
