Though there is no promotional activity yet, British Airways World Traveller and World Traveller Plus (longhaul exUK) fares have just been reduced – in some cases quite noticeably.

New York from London is now available from £328 in World Traveller; £570 in World Traveller Plus:

Fares overall (as we’re becoming accustomed to) are not as spectacular as they were 12 to 18 months ago at the height of the demand vs. capacity imbalance, but there are some interesting offers in there, particularly in World Traveller Plus.

In the latter case, the interest is raised yet further on routes with BA Miles availability in Club World, allowing the purchase of a Premium Economy ticket and the use of miles to upgrade to Business. Indeed, the ongoing 25% bonus on BA Miles purchases may make this relevant even to those with minimal balances:

Other sample World Traveller (Plus) fares from London:

    Sydney £865 (£1388)

    Hong Kong £506 (£868)

    Johannesburg £659 (£1046)

    Mexico City £569 (£914)

    Los Angeles £423 (£826)

As always, it makes sense to bag the best availability before the marketing begins. Fares originating at UK regional airports are also loaded.

The marketing of this promotion has now begun, with a full list of destinations and best available fares showing at:

It’s also possible to combine these new fares in ‘dynamic packages’ which include hotel and or/car hire arrangements, and benefit from up to 10,000 bonus BA Miles if you make the booking while logged in to your Executive Club account:

have just looked, SYD is still £1400 – can anyone please tell me which dates the £865 fare is available for.

tarisingh: you need to use the Low Fare Finder:

    http://bit.ly/aBaHb5

This shows you the best prices that are available for each bookable month, helping you to narrow down your search.

You can select any destination and cabin class to easily compare options.

The £865 fare is available for travel in May and June 2011; a slightly higher £907 fare is available for travel in August, September and October 2010.

If you book return business, I understood that you got a free oneway upgrade to first too

You’re quite correct, kmcottrell, that there is also an ongoing ‘Buy a Full Fare Club, Get a One Way Upgrade to First’ promotion.

This can be booked by calling BA and applies to exUK itineraries.

    Full details at:

However, as the promo title describes, that particular offer would not be combinable with Sale fares, nor would it apply to Club World bookings that have themselves been upgraded from World Traveller Plus with BA Miles.

Is there any way of booking one way at one level and return at another, without upgrading using miles?

Yes, there is, although I’m afraid that I can’t generate a direct link to the exact page.

Instead run a normal fare/availability search, say from here:

    http://bit.ly/cWyKgH

which should start you off with a search from London to Las Vegas. Click on Get Flights at the bottom of the page and then Continue when you get to the date matrix.

On the fares matrix page which follows, you’ll see a small drop-down menu in the pale blue band(s) which allow you to Change outbound class and Change inbound class.

This will allow you to book a mixed cabin class itinerary online.

The one chink in this functionality, however, is that this option does not present itself when you are booking a connecting itinerary, eg MAN-LHR-LAS LAS-LHR-MAN. To book such a mixed-class connecting itinerary, you will have to call BA and ask them to waive the offline fee as the booking cannot currently be made online.

The difference between doing, for example, WT+ out Club back and Club both ways can be relatively small.

Checking LHR ORD for Aug flights yesterday

    WT+ out and back : £800
    WT+ out Club back : £1600
Club out and back : £1800

The trick is to try all the options.

The other trick is to book early too. For a family trip for my wife and I later this month to IAD I booked F out C return at just over £4000 in total. The latest price for the same flights is now slightly over £12280. That’s what I call a bargain.

    Too true, Tim2sms and lloydah!

Is there a rule of thumb as to when is early when booking?
