    Why is it necessary when next week it will be announced that UK citizens will be allowed to apply for Global Entry…

    @amc1234 Yes I would like to see a Nothern/Scottish airport adopt pre-clearance.

    @James72 But remember many different nationalities are using LHR for transatlantic flights.

    Please excuse me for the diversion, but what happened to the AMS-Hartford route? I think it was operated by Delta?

    @AMcWhirter
    I actually suggested (by hinting) that preclearance could be introduced in several locations so that all the airlines serving the US would benefit.

    @amc1234
    Preclearance in other airports (MAN, BHX, EDI, GLA) would be a huge bonus and as you say could well see BA return. They are losing out by pursuing their London Airways strategy.

    @James72
    Perhaps as only regular and high status travellers will benefit from Global Entry, not the majority.

    I hear Tehran is an almost certainty – now the British Embassy has re-opened etc etc etc

    It was actually Northwest Airlines on the BDL-AMS route. This was before the merger with DL. The route was cut due to the financial crisis.

    Here’s a thread about why BDL-AMS began in 2006:

    http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/3043861

    Another thread questioning in 2007 whether it would survive:

    http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/3554793

    Another from 2008 asking if it would return for S09:

    http://www.airliners.net/aviation-forums/general_aviation/read.main/4230953

    Article from Hartford Courant stating that Northwest would restore the flight in S09, just weeks after axing it for the winter in Oct 2008:

    http://articles.courant.com/2008-12-10/news/amsterdam1210.art_1_hartford-amsterdam-northwest-airlines-airline-restores-europe-flight

    But then come March 2009 they report it won’t resume that summer:

    http://articles.courant.com/2009-03-28/news/amsterdam-flight_1_nonstop-flight-northwest-airlines-delta-air-lines

    Finally another thread from 2010 that should shed some light on why it ended, with discussion on potential TATL future service from BDL:

    To add to the list of flights moving from T5 to T3, there is a flight moving from T3 to T5!!

    The Hanover flight moved from T1 to T3 when T1 shut and now I found on the BA website the Hanover flight moves from T3 to T5 on 27 March 2016.

    Looks like this is the only current short haul flight moving to T5, and as I am a regular to Hanover, this can only be good news for me.

    Rumors are circulating that YEG are expected to make a major route announcement in a few weeks. Just out of curiosity, could this be the addition of a British Airways 789, now that AC has left what is now an unfilled gap?

    Can’t really see BA serviing two relativley minor Canadian airports 2.5 hours drive from each other…

    @james72
    Wish I could disagree with you. However sadly you’re right, it probably won’t be happening. That says who knows?

    AC must be pulling out for a reason and I think KLM also go there now(?).

    I am sure there are higher priorities for valuable LHR slots.

    Like … Inverness… ? ;-/

    Probably won’t happen due to BA’s codeshare deal with Westjet that shuttles between the 2 Albertan cities.
    Factor in that KLM flies between Edmonton and Amsterdam and that might be enough competition to put BA off ?

    @sparkyflyer / canucklad
    Good points. I would add that once the oil industry recovers, Edmonton should be viable, especially without Air Canada on the route. It’s a growing city, with business, VFR and tourist demand, so a 3-4 times a week B788 would be ideal. But only in the future.
