Another DB missed connection

EU expert Jon Worth (who I have quoted on several occasions) is a rail fan and always travels by high-speed train between Berlin and Brussels with a change at Cologne.

On several occasions he has missed his connection at Cologne owing to DB’s poor ICE punctuality – see link below.

As we have noted before DB’s ICE network resembles aviation’s hub & spoke system. But it will fail when trains are run late.

Today it happened yet again and to my thinking it’s not good in this age of ‘flight shame’ when two mainline train firms do not co-operate with one another.

    Jon Worth tweets:

“DB train manager tells me next ICE [Cologne-Brussels] is 2 hours later”

“Can I not take earlier Thalys, I ask ?”

“We don’t collaborate with them. she [the conductor] says.”

Deutsche Bahn’s ICE punctuality remains below target

I’ve also suffered from this happening in the past. The only good news was they gave me a € 30 voucher for lunch, and it was an excellent lunch though the voucher didn’t quite cover the cost!
