Interviewed by Aviation Week at the Dubai Air Show, Emirates president Tim Clark says that 18 ins wide seats are not critical for the leaner Asian market. But in the European and American markets, 18 ins is far too small.

“In fact, if the truth be told, you need 36 ins,” says Tim Clark.

Interesting how Airbus has changed tack in the space of a few weeks.

In order to prop up the market value of its A340s (and specifically the longer 600 series version) Airbus is now proposing a 9-across layout to airlines.

But 9-across (for a plane designed for 8-across) means that the seats will be a tight 16.7 ins wide.

What happened to Airbus’ call for an 18 ins industry standard ?

    Hi Alex
Name, shame and boycott those carriers that put greed and shareholder short term gain over the long suffering passenger!

These airlines “y” should be re-designated on your sister site as “Steerage Class”

I will nominate Air Canada for a start — totally lost the plot, and should have their 4 * removed!

And lets not beat about the bush…..VP Nico Buchholz “don’t like” comment translates into “If we could getaway with sticking them into a cattle truck we would “

And Airbus, lets just call them hypocrites with the anatomy of a eunuch !
