This news has been reported in Germany and Holland but not, so far, in the UK.

Air France took delivery of a brand new US$282 million B787-9 on April 8. It’s the sixth B787 in the fleet.

But this valuable aircraft has stood unused at CDG because of a dispute between the airline and the pilots’ union. There is a lack of trainers to prepare Air France pilots for B787 operation.

Air France blames the pilots union.

Said a spokesperson to Aerotelegraph “Air France regrets being forced to shut down the sixth Dreamliner. The [B787] plane has become a hostage to a conflict about about which it had nothing to do.”

At the risk of upsetting the flocons de neige (snowflakes) I have to question why there was no foresight/planning involved. The plane didn’t suddenly turn up like mannah from heaven.

And of course Air France has to find a scapegoat for their own lack of foresight. No wonder it’s losing so much money.

To the paint shop, KLM livery, and a short hop to Amsterdam. I’m quite sure they know what to do with it there and put it to good use.
It would also be a nice gesture to apologize to the Dutch for all those strikes of the past months and to keep AF/KL financially afloat.

Report today in France’s Lesechos.fr that Air France management and the unions have reached an agreement to reinstate the grounded B787.

No date as to yet it will enter service but should be soon.

Meanwhile there is still no agreement between management and unions on the latter’s wage demands.

So far no further strikes have been announced.
