I agree, but until there is a readily available/verifiable, more pertinent basis then GDP is reasonable reference point to compare one south American country wrt another.

KLM have always historically had a good presence in South America, at one stage withdrew capacity, but now confidently returns to a greater presence.

The 2015 transform plan is kicking in, and the numbers are shifting, the write off of 1 Billion Euros from Alitalia did not help this year. Neither does the fact that KLM has been profitable for some years, yet it is AF that sheds the cash. Pity we cannot see the results in two different sets of figures.

Shares i bought in AF/KLM have doubled, finding they would be on the way up from a low with this plan. the re-structuring is taking time, as with IAG, but it is working, and heading in the right direction. At the same time, the fleet of KLm is very young now and almost mostly replaced, with a new Business class, and lots of innovations at the same time. Matched together, in tough times, this is quite an achievement.
