SenatorParticipantVintageKrug,
Take BA0782 LHR-ARN, a flight with departure at 16:40 and arrival at 20:10. During the timing of this flight, it could be argued that we are within dinner/supper time. Why not offer a proper meal rather than three finger sandwiched and some scones?
The alternative is SAS, and for all their other faults you will get a proper meal.

TravellatorParticipantVK the BA afternoon tea isnt exactly the Ritz and thank you for your support Senator.
Not in Helsinki alex – back home in a celtic region
Point of departure was – guess another airport beginning with L and not LHR.
And yes Drumochter it was a non 747 400.
Pointless begins on television in about an hour – can we keep the thread going that long – loads of POINTLESS answers here – LOL

A flight of nearly 3 hours…you’ve got me there. Can’t be Galicia as BA does not fly there. Well, I’m sure you have been well fed and watered by now!

TravellatorParticipantIn deference to BA our return flight at 12.15 was catered with a VERY tasty hot meal, georgeous pudding and excellent service with plenty of drinks runs – so they can do it !
However flights after 8.30 pm will now only be Cocoa and Biscuits !

canuckladParticipantHi Travellator…..
You havn’t told us the route…..
If you’re flight was southbound mostly, arriving at 20.30 ish local time then Afternoon tea is about right…
On the other hand if was mostly eastwards and into 2 time zones meaning a later local arrival, then yes I would expect a dinner service 1.25 hours into the flight!
The balance BA needs to get right is departure time food ritual and arrival time food ritual !!

TravellatorParticipantSorry Canucklad ( Celtic as well ? ) dont agree. Afternoon tea is usually taken between 2 and 4pm in civilised countries at least.
Regardless the quality and amount of the offering provided was meagre to say the least and not sustinence on a flight of this duration.

Henkel.TrockenParticipantBA need to think about flight duration and arrival time when planning food service on shorthaul much more than departure time. As all flights except domestic and DUB gain an hour immediately it very often means that you can be served extended breakfast or afternoon tea both of which are an insult and by the time you arrive lunch or dinner are over.
As with so many things, their planning is flawed and service is governed by the bean counters rather than customer needs and expectations.
However, as BCAL used to advertise: ‘(we) never forget you have a choice’. Which fortunately is true most of the time.
