One of many reports, detailing the decision by the Qantas owned JetStar, to Link in with KLM /AF.
Improving access for Domestic Australia, & Asia Pacific travel for
EU customers, as well as the AF /KLM European network & gateways of Paris & Amsterdam.

Qantas may be the parent of the group (I can’t confirm this personally), but Jetstar Asia would have serious issues with you Qantas are its parent – Jetstar Asia has Qantas as a minority shareholder.

And this isn’t a big thing – AF have been codesharing with Qantas for a while on flights between Asia & Australia.

Indeed, JordanD, and QF also codeshare with AF into Paris.

There is a long-standing relationship between the two companies, as there is between Qantas and British Airways.

Indeed, there are many non-alliance partnerships between individual carriers; this Jetstar/JetstarAsia/Valuair development is not significantly different from any of them.

The likelihood is, however, that as airline consolidation progresses and alliances enhance their penetration, the incidences of cross-alliance partnerships will also increase.

This month, for example, Vietnam Airlines joins SkyTeam. However, access to Vietnam by airlines such as Cathay (oneworld) and Singapore (Star) is controlled under strict and binding bi-lateral agreements. These agreements see VN revenue and code-sharing on the CX and SQ flights. Accordingly, we’ll now see a SkyTeam airline codesharing with both oneworld and Star Alliance carriers.

There are plenty of other examples.
