Announced today that American Airlines have acquired two pairs of Heathrow slots from SAS. Where do you think they will use them? PHX is a possible new destination due to its existing large base plus BA are having success on this sector. Austin? Or will they simply use them to increase frequencies to established sectors.

There’s going to be endless speculation. Bear in mind that SAS states it has the right to use these two slot pairs at Heathrow for up to three years.

I have to admit, when I heard all the recent slot trading I thought Oman Air, or other ME carrier. Maybe a new destination in China. Never considered AA. The routes would be an interesting dilemma. AA tried Memphis, Nashville and Raleigh c.20 years ago from Gatwick, only Raleigh survived. Maybe they’ll try again?
