    1. Lighting controls which require reference to a hand book.
    2. Little cards everywhere.
    3. Electronic mini bars which do not permit you to store your own drinks.
    4. Mini bar prices – £6.50 for a small packet of crisps, anyone?
    5. Mini bars.
    6. UHT milk.
    7. Two sachets of white sugar only.
    8. Bedtime chocolates.
    9. Strips of coloured cloth along the bottom of a bed – no, this does not make a chain property into a boutique hotel.
    10. No stationery.
    11. No armchair.
    12. The wrong morning paper – worse than no paper at all.
    13. Plastic tumblers.
    14. Soap and shampoo in squeezy bottles.
    15. Loos which flush when you lean back.
    16. Loos which face wardrobe mirrors.
    17. No face flannels – in an ‘executive’ room.
    18. Bedside lights which you cannot read by.
    19. TV sets which default to the ‘premium’ channels.
    20. No kettles in US hotels – you cannot boil water for tea in a coffee maker.
    21. Tissue boxes with one tissue.
    22. Loo rolls with a sticker on the free end.
    23. Shampoo or soap which you need a knife (taken off you at security) to open.
24.Room service which takes 45 minutes.
    25. Room service breakfast with the wrong items and no milk – or a spoon – or a knife and jam instead of marmalade.
    26. No socket which will take a Mac power supply.
    27. No desk.
    28. No chair at the desk which you can work at for more than 10 minutes.
    29. Piledriving from the building site next door at 0330 hrs.
    30. Losing your laundry.

    28. Unsuitable and useless coat hangers
    29. Half sized ironing boards
    30. Room for two, towels for one!
    31. Silly small bottles of shampoo, shower gel especially shower gel

Just heard from the DH that due to the grounding of helicopters in ABZ yesterday and today, hotels have doubled their rack rates. And

Last night on a well known hotel booking site, one hotel (national chain) was charging £600 yes SIX HUNDRED POUNDS STERLING for a standard room – I know the hotel, it’s a basic 3star and on a good day I wouldn’t pay more than £60! I won’t name and shame. Shocking behaviour.

Anyway I told him we have a very nice log cabin and Mrs P can cook a mean brekkie ….. Only joking!

    32. Arriving flustered and exhausted after a long flight and trying to locate your room. When you eventually find it your keycard doesn’t work and you have to return to reception.

Simonhb – tip – always ask for two keys and then hopefully at least one will work!

    Hello papillion

I have often wondered why in certain hotels I am given 2 keycards when travelling alone. ‘Do I look like someone who plays away?’

    @ StewartKidd1

Last week in New York I made a perfect cup of tea using the coffee maker.

    33. Hair on the bathroom floor.
    34. Spending at least 10 minutes trying to work out how the shower works.

Simon, next time get someone from reception to show you up to your room so if the key doesnt work they can let you in with a master and while you relax in the room they can go get you a new key 😉

    35. Returning to my room after a morning’s work to find it has not yet been serviced.
    36. Shower temperature controls that are ineffective and the only setting is luke warm.
    37. Booking a king size, it being confirmed at reception to find when you get in the room it is a twin.
    38. A robe that was made for a midget even though it says extra large on it.
    39. Towels that have seen better days – several years ago.
    40. Being charged for a basic thing you might have forgotten e.g. shaving gel which is supplied in a tiny container and you are charged more double what you would normally pay for a regular one.

As an owner of 4, all-be-it small, hotels I have read this thread with a smile, and will take some of the more realistic points to heart and share with my various teams. Maybe my 5th hotel will be able to meet all of the above expectations.

dutchyankee, how much do you charge for water bottled and tap? 😉

    Henkel,

    38. A robe that was made for a midget even though it says extra large on it

Are you sure its the fault of the hotel?
