jetlaggedParticipantRecently when I checked in online with BA there was an offer on the boarding pass for a free upgrade to first class on HEX. Don’t quite understand how they can justify charging thirty quid each way for it, but it was nice to see how the pointlessly rich live….

RogerVictorParticipantI just tried this link out and the dates on the web page are only for travel up to 30th March. Do you have information that differs from this VK?

VintageKrugParticipantI am afraid this is typical BAA incompetence in action.
The link should indeed be valid for the dates set out above, but it doesn’t seem to be working.
Try this one instead http://www.heathrowexpress.com/ana and no need to register either, but just 14% off alas

PerthWAParticipantGood grief… having just been put on a ‘budget’ and with a weekend to spend in London, I had the bright idea of paying 50 pounds for a hotel at heathrow instead of 150 in the city and taking the train in each day…. I think I may just give that ‘bright’ budget minded idea a miss…

VintageKrugParticipantYou needn’t use the Heathrow Express.
Use the Tube. The Piccadilly Line is about £3 each way, and getting a one day Travel Card would probably run to about £10 (not sure of exact cost…anyone..?). http://www.tfl.gov.uk
Piccadilly can be down for maintenance at weekends, however.
Airport hotels can be more faff to get to than the saving merits, especially when you can stay in a five star central Park Lane hotel for a little over $100 using http://www.priceline.com and http://www.biddingfortravel.com

NTarrantParticipantHeathrow is in Zone 6 which a peak Travelcard giving unlimited travel on buses, tube, DLR and trams (plus discount on water bus) is £14.80. Off peak it is £7.50 (all daySaturday and Sunday). The single tube fare from LHR to Oxford Circus is £4.50 each way. There is the Oyster card option which works out cheaper
There is National Express who do a day return for £9.00 (www.nationalexpress.co.uk). If you are staying at most of the hotels along the Bath Road you can travel there for free from Heathrow Central area (and T4 and T5)on any of the LT bus services, this is under the “free flow Heathrow” which encourages the use of public transport around the airport. The hotel hopper is okay if you have heavy luggage and want to be dropped right at the door, but it is not cheap!
