On a legal point of view I’m afraid you are 100% right. Howewer, in such circomstances, it is really a shame an airline is not able to express some sympathy with their clients

I would suggest you send an email to Norwegian to explain the situation and ask for a refund or at least for a credit. Should they refuse, you can try with your credit card insurance.
