I agree with you re the coffee/tea situation. BA still uses bags which have to be ‘dunked’ in the pots and obviously there is no quality guarantee as it depends how long the crew leave the bag in the pot before serving. This is a particular issue on a full B747 WT cabin as the brewing during the service has to be on an almost industrial scale!
You will only receive ‘barrista style’ coffee from BA in First as they have a machine there.
On the question of temperature – you will be aware that water does not boil at the cabin pressure on an aircraft so that’s already a problem.
The china cups used in CW are stored in trolleys and are usually freezing cold. Good crew will ensure the cups are warmed before serving as it makes all the difference but this is not a BA standard. The ideal storage for the cups would be in a canister above the ovens or brewers as this area gets hot but I’m afraid Mr Elfinsafety would not allow.
