From what I’ve read on those links & elsewhere, the damage was only discovered on inspection at DOH, and the crew were not notified of the damage to the lighting by MIA control as they themselves didn’t know at the time – hence why the aircraft continued on rather than returning as nobody knew there was an issue.

I’ve also read that they went from intersection T1, so didn’t have the full ~13000 feet runway, but more like ~9000 feet.
