If the flight crew/captain decided the aircraft was safe to fly then the flight attendants should accept it. It is the captain that is ultimately responsible for the safety of the aircraft , and by refusing to fly against the captains instructions then it sounds like refusal to follow a reasonable instruction. Not sure they should have been fired, a written warning should suffice.
