There has already been significant preparation for the above expansion, and I believe it’s the quickest way to effectively add an additional runway in the South East.

Stansted’s real issue is its poor rail links to London, which will take time to address.

Travellator’s post underlines the fundamental issues with using the LHR site; it’s simply too small to allow the terminal expansion required to deliver gates for all flights; this situation would be even further exacerbated by a doubling of runway capacity (which would deliver just 25% less capacity than the building of two runways in the Estuary).

But investment in Gatwick is the quickest way to deliver greater capacity and resilience than a short Third Runway at Heathrow would, and would ensure no need to further develop Heathrow and start its 20 year winding down process, by which time Thames Hub would be up and running, with capacity to spare.
