As wriiten above, this investment is primarily to refresh the existing buildings, especially Halls 1 + 2
Mind you, plans have existed for at least two decades to build a rail-linked terminal, or satellite, on the west of the A4 motorway, in the space near the road tunnel which is often used for day- or week-parking by KLM, Delta and Surinam Airways planes. It is preferable to see it as a satellite, otherwise the term “new terminal” or “second terminal” will do huge damage to the reputation of SPL as a one-terminal airport.
However, “plans” at Schiphol are to be seen more as options. The railway tunnels were built in the 60s, and put into service end-70s, so the plans existed in the 50s.
I can’t see where to put a 7th runway, but they will find a way. Rumours here in my near-Schiphol village are that a ‘ring’ eliptical runway will be built all around the perimeter fence, with slanted curvature to allow use in all wind conditions. It will be reserved for airlines that handle bendy take-offs and landings. No names. Reminds one of the Dutch joke about how the Belgians rebuilt Zaventem with a massive cover over the main runways to allow for all-weather use.
The idea of 1 billion for upgrading the KLM Lounges is a good one! Bring back the raspberry juice!!
