Most airlines will allow small changes (some for a charge, some not), usually up to 3 letters. Major airlines do not allow complex name changes for just the point raised earlier on here. Agents would just buy up all the discount tickets in one name and sell them at whatever markup they think they could achieve and just change it to the buyers name. It would mean higher ticket prices for all, and bad press for the airlines as it would look like they are charging high fares when in actuallity the airline had sold it at a discount but the client actually paid a much higher fare.
