Do people actually buy stuff in ‘Duty Free’ anymore? And if so, what? In the good old days of air travel, there was a significant saving to be had over high street prices, but with internet shopping and massive discounting in high streets and supermarkets, are goods actually any cheaper at airports? Given the rent the airports charge the shops, I’d be surprised. Certainly, you’re lucky to find a bottle of water for under £1. Or once past security and airside, do we let go all our rational shopping behaviour and shop because the shops are there?
