A.-L. Breguet and his son were the appointed “Chronometer-makers to the French Royal Navy” in 1815. The watchmakers created the most elaborate “equation of time” models of their time. “Equation of time” is known as one of the most intriguing horological complications ever made. It’s designed to display the difference between mean solar time, corresponding to civil or standard hours and minutes, and true solar time, meaning the actual solar hours and minutes.

As a tribute to its maritime heritage, Breguet launched Marine Équation Marchante 5887 at Baselworld 2017. The watch features a running “equation of time”, a perpetual calendar and a tourbillon. The back of the piece is embellished with beautiful engravings that celebrate the spirit of the navy. It features an alligator strap with a gold folding clasp, a stunning blue dial and a sapphire-crystal case-back.
