Although vaccines are being rolled out across the world, for the foreseeable future it is likely that you will need to present a negative Covid-19 test should you wish to travel for work or leisure.

There are various tests on offer which range in price and accuracy.

See our feature Which Covid-19 tests allow you to travel’ for more details.

Some hotels also offer tests – see  Hotels offering ‘rest and test’ packages.

Now, airlines have also begun to offer discounts on tests when you book a reservation with them. Here we round up the various offers available. We will keep this page regularly updated with the latest news.

Note that some airlines also have deals with airport testing centres – see our feature Which airports are offering Covid-19 tests’ for further information.

A second phase of the initiative (expected to launch in a few months) will expand the number of markets the app is available in, and will allow customer to use the app to validate their test results when checking in at the airport.

During the trial period, customers will still need to print the PCR certificates “as per the current requirements of the destination they are traveling to”.

How much does it cost?

Passengers travelling from the UAE benefit from a preferred rate of AED 130 (€30).

Those departing from other countries will pay between €70 and €90 depending on the destination.

Finnair aircraft taking off from Manchester airport

Finnair

The carrier is partnering with Finnish healthcare service company Terveystalo, with customers benefiting from discounted prices and the option to pay using loyalty points.

Customers are directed to the service via Finnair’s website, where they will be able to choose their closest clinic for a PCR test. The airline promises that you will receive a coronavirus certificate required by the destination country and that the result and certificate will be ready “in a timely manner” – from 24-36 hours after testing.

You can also choose a test-only option (without the certificate fulfilling the destination country’s requirement) through the Oma Terveys service. This option is designed for Finnish nationals who return home from a high-risk country and want to reduce the quarantine by getting tested after arrival.

Travellers can also request an IgM antibody test, which is required for travel to China.

How much does it cost?

Finnair customers get a 10 per cent discount. The test and certificate will cost €236.50 (€211.50 for test only).

Finnair Plus Platinum Lumo, Platinum and Gold members get a 15 per cent discount. The test and certificate will cost €224.75 (€199.75 for test only).

If you need an original printed paper certificate, this will cost an extra €10.

Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic has partnered with UK health firm Prenetics to offer at-home tests and packages based on the UK’s new traffic light system.

A dedicated microsite helps customers navigate the testing requirements required for their destination. Using this site, customers can either order an individual Covid-19 test (lateral flow antigen or PCR) or a travel testing bundle which can be tailored to their destination.

Customers can use the filter on the website to select the country they are travelling to and choose whether it’s a one-way or return trip. The site will then show the specific tests required for travel and will present the most suitable test bundle.

The testing packages are based on the current requirements, and will be subject to regular review. Customers will also be able to change the bundle if the country changes from green to amber (or vice versa), and will be issued with a refund or required to pay the difference.

The packages are only valid for destinations that accept at-home tests.

How much does it cost?

The round-trip bundles which include PCR tests start from £152 for a ‘green’ country and £179 for an ‘amber’ country. Packages for countries that accept lateral flow antigen to enter cost £130.

The PCR and Green Arrivals bundle, for instance, includes a pre-departure PCR test, a rapid antigen ‘test to carry’ for return to the UK, and a mandatory Day 2 PCR test once back in the UK. If customers buy the three tests separately, this would cost £166.

The PCR and Amber Arrivals bundle is the same but also includes a Day 8 PCR test, and the package is priced at £211 – this would cost £226 if the tests are bought individually. There is also the option to add on a PCR test at Day 5 for test to release (for Amber countries).

An individual pre-departure PCR test is priced at £55.

An individual rapid antigen test costs £26.
