Ten hotels we're looking forward to opening in 2023

With the Covid pandemic firmly in the rear view mirror, 2023 promises to be a bumper year for hotels as travellers look to return to travel in earnest.

This round-up takes a look at just some of the exciting openings for this year, across destinations including London, New York, Singapore, Sydney, Munich and Brussels.

As always with hotel openings some of these may slip into 2024, and equally there are many, many others that have not made the list.

New and upcoming London hotels (2022)

Hotel Morris, Sydney

Hotel Morris, Sydney

January 2023 will see the reopening of the historic West End Hotel on Sydney’s Pitt Street, with the renovated boutique property being reflagged as Hotel Morris.

The hotel will be operated by Accor as an unbranded property, and will feature 82 rooms European-influenced rooms with custom furniture, brass detailing and stone finishes, as well as a ground floor art deco inspired wine bar opening onto Pitt Street.

The Peninsula London

Peninsula London

London’s first Peninsula hotel is currently scheduled to open in early 2023, in the capital’s Belgravia district.

The property will be housed on the site of a former 1960s office block overlooking Hyde Park Corner between Grosvenor Crescent and Halkin Street, and will feature 190 rooms as well as shops, bars, restaurants and a ballroom.

The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne

The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne

The long-awaited Ritz-Carlton Melbourne is currently accepting reservations from March 2023.

Occupying the upper levels of an 80-storey tower on Lonsdale Street, Australia’s tallest hotel will offer 257 rooms, a 64th floor spa with infinity pool, and a signature restaurant and library bar.

The Hoxton, Brussels

The Hoxton Brussels

The Hoxton will open its latest European property in April 2023, with the unveiling of a 198-room hotel in Brussels.

The Hoxton, Brussels will occupy the brutalist-style Victoria Tower, the former European headquarters of IBM, and will feature 1970s-inspired rooms with design by Aime Studios.

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, London

Mandarin Oriental Mayfair

Mandarin Oriental’s second London property is set to open in spring 2023, located on Hanover Square close to Bond Street and Oxford Circus Underground stations.

The property will feature 50 rooms and suites designed by UK-based Studio Indigo, as well as 78 private residences, a restaurant by Korean Michelin-starred chef Akira Back, and a spa with 25-metre swimming pool.

Pan Pacific Orchard, Singapore

The 347-room Pan Pacific Orchard is set to open in June 2023 on the namesake Orchard Road, within a 23-storey development made up of four open-air towering terraces which cut out from the main structure in a Jenga-like design.

The hotel will feature more than 7,300 sqm of foliage that covers more than 200 per cent of the hotel’s land area, and each guest room will include views of either the terrace greenery or the Singapore cityscape.

The Lana, Dorchester Collection, Dubai

The Dorchester Collection’s first hotel in the Middle East is scheduled to open in September 2023.

Situated in Dubai’s Burj Khalifa District of Dubai, The Lana (from the Arabic expression “for us” and the Hawaiian “floating gently in calm water”) will feature 156 rooms and 69 suites, as well as a Mediterranean restaurant and rooftop pool.

Warren Street Hotel, New York

Warren Street Hotel, New York - Firmdale Hotels

Firmdale Hotels is set to open its third hotel in New York in September 2023, with a property located in Tribeca.

Warren Street Hotel will feature 57 rooms and suites along with 12 residences over 11 floors, as well as a drawing room, “light and airy” orangery and the 150-seat all-day dining venue Warren Bar and Restaurant.

Rosewood Munich

First announced in 2017, the 132-room Rosewood Munich is slated to open in late 2023 and will be housed within two landmark buildings – the 19th century former headquarters of the State Bank of Bavaria, and the adjacent 18th century Palais Neuhaus-Preysing.

Facilities will include a restaurant and bar, a lobby lounge, spa facilities including an indoor pool, five treatment rooms and a gym, and meeting and events space for up to 400 guests.

The St Regis London

*****UPDATE: The opening date for The St Regis London has been pushed back until 2024*****

Earlier this year it was announced that The Westbury hotel in London’s Mayfair is to become a St Regis property.

The 192-room hotel is scheduled to reopen in 2023 following a £90 million transformation, which will see an additional eighth floor added to the existing property. The hotel’s Polo Bar will be retained, and there are plans for a signature restaurant, speakeasy jazz bar, fitness centre and spa.
