Guests were then free to sample as few or as many as they liked, ranging from light whites through to full bodied reds. The wines of the evening were:

  • Lievland Chenin Blanc, Paarl, South Africa, 2017
  • Paul de Albas, Rioja, 2011
  • Chateau La Croix Mouton, Bordeaux, France, 2015
  • The Cigar Cabernet Sauvignon, Yalumba Estate, Coonawarra, Australia, 2014

Staff from The Stafford London provided canapes, including Crispy tiger prawns with Singapore chilli sauce, Gin and tonic Blini, horseradish crème Fraiche, Game Bird terrine, brioche and chutney and wild mushroom arancini, truffle mayonnaise.

At the end of the evening there was a prize draw for the winner of a short written quiz, with the prize being a bottle of 2009 Louis Roederer Cristal champagne.

The evening ended in the Cellars at 9pm, but then many guests retired upstairs to the hotel’s famous American Bar.
