Business Traveller Awards 2011

26 Sep 2011 by BusinessTraveller

Welcome to the results of the Business Traveller Awards 2011. Once again you, our readers in the UK, voted to reward those companies whose products and services you really value.

This year's awards were announced at a luncheon on September 26 in the ballroom of Kensington’s Royal Garden hotel, and presented by author, journalist and radio and television presenter John Humphrys.

Sponsored by Heathrow Express and supported by Panasonic Avionics and Aeromobile, the Business Traveller Awards are voted for by readers of the magazine, with the results authenticated by an independent auditing company, and are widely recognised as the market’s benchmark for excellence. A fixture of the business travel and hospitality calendar for more than 25 years, this year’s hotly contested awards produced a few surprises for the 400 industry leaders at the event.

British Airways reclaimed the title of Best Airline from Singapore Airlines, and also won Best Short-Haul Carrier and Best Frequent Flyer Programme. Singapore Airlines continued to show strongly, taking Best Business Class, Best Economy Class, Best Long-Haul Airline, Best Asian Airline and Best Cabin Staff. Emirates won Best First Class, with Virgin Atlantic winning Best Premium Economy and also taking the award for Best Airport Lounge for its Clubhouse at London Heathrow Terminal 3.

Four Seasons won Best Business Hotel Chain Worldwide, as well as Best Luxury Hotel Chain, and the Four Seasons George V in Paris was named Best Business Hotel in Western Europe. Hilton Hotels and Resorts was voted Best Business Hotel Chain in the UK and Europe. Marriott won Best Business Hotel Chain in North America for the sixth consecutive year, with Jumeirah winning in the Middle East for the seventh year in a row, and Shangri-La continuing its dominance in Asia-Pacific for an impressive 17 uninterrupted years.

The Best Airport in the World was once again awarded to Singapore’s Changi Airport, which has yet to be beaten in this category. Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport won Best Airport in Europe and London Heathrow was awarded Best Airport for Tax-Free Shopping for the third year running. In another closely contested category, Avis won the Best Car Rental Company Worldwide crown from Hertz.
