CromartyScotParticipantI’ve hot a six hour layover at Hong Kong travelling Cathay business class so am looking for your opinions on the best lounge to use as there seems to be multiple options. My flight lands around 6am local time, then departs at lunchtime down to Oz.

TominScotlandParticipantAbsolutely no contest – The Wing. The Business Lounge is accessed, if I remember, close to Gate 2.

Gold-2KParticipantRemember the new qantas lounge has just opened this week so if you have one world status may be worth a look in there also. It looks pretty good from the pics.
But the Wing is very good although last time I was there from around 3pm to 6pm on a Friday it was very crowded.

nanosphereParticipantThe newly-opened The Bridge would be an excellent choice, especially if your flight departs from a large-numbered gate down the concourse. The bakery serves freshly-made sandwiches or just-baked pizzas depending on the time of the day, complemented with cocktails from the bar or a cap from the coffee loft. It isn’t crowded most of the time, probably many passengers aren’t aware of its existence.

canuckladParticipantHi CromarteyScot
Have you been to Hong Kong before? If not I’d recommend jumping on the MTR and heading into Central / Kowloon for a wee look.
In the time you’ve got its very doable , and much better than being bored in a lounge, granted an exceptionally fine lounge

ReggieHoParticipantHi CromartyScot,
The Wing is a good facility, and it went through renovation a couple of years ago. See http://www.businesstraveller.asia/asia-pacific/news/cathay-pacific-reopens-the-wing-level-7
I personally think The Bridge is cosier, for a review, see http://www.businesstraveller.asia/asia-pacific/news/cx-opens-new-lounge,-the-bridge
As Gold-2K has suggested, if you can access to the new Qantas lounge with your Oneworld status, it’s worth checking out too: http://www.businesstraveller.asia/asia-pacific/news/qantas-opens-new-lounge-in-hong-kong
But Canucklad is also right. With six hours to spare, heading into town for a look is also a good idea. Morning dim sum is a waning tradition but you can still enjoy it at some old-style places such as Lin Heung Lau: http://www.businesstraveller.asia/asia-pacific/archive/2013/march-2013/lifestyle/a-taste-of-hong-kong
Mind you, though, it can get really crowded and a little chaotic, but the food is worth it.
Enjoy your time in Hong Kong!

HongKongLadyParticipantIf you haven’t been to HK, I agree withCL. Get on the airport express to Central, take a peek at the high end shops in IFC and have dim sum here or in City Hall.
Wander up to Pottinger street and look in the paper shops and trinket places, Hollywood Road is also good for window shopping.13 Apr 2014

canuckladParticipantWell HK lady, apologies and fore warning for my Sunday sexist comment coming up on the next line.
Shopping in a mall, what a girlie suggestion : )
A lads alternative. MTR to Jordan wander down to the Star ferry and time dependent. Either taxi to the funnicullar railway, have breakfast at the peak and then head back.
Or if time is tight come of the Star ferry, brush walk to pier 3 ,harbour cruise courtesy of DB ferries ,a bite to eat on the deck at DB and then a 15 min bus trip back to CLK
No time for shopping Lol.

Lando MarcoParticipantI like the Bridge too, but as a OW Emerald, I’ve been privilege to enjoy the Wing’s First lounge which is very good – Peninsular catering and all! The new Qantas lounge is great, large and uncluttered and serves great food – however, it is only opened from 3pm onwards.

CromartyScotParticipantThanks for all the suggestions. Breakfast in the city sounds like a good idea…. where is the best view in town?

ReggieHoParticipantHi CromartyScot, you can take the Airport Express to Kowloon Station and go to The Ritz-Carlton http://www.businesstraveller.asia/tried-and-tested/hotels/asia/hotel-check-ritz-carlton-hong-kong
It is the highest hotel in the world. Enjoy!

canuckladParticipantI’ll second ReggieHo’s suggestion.
I was looking forward to swanning about the Ozone Bar earlier this month, alas by the time I could be bothered raising my energy levels from chilled DB to 7’s manic, the weather had closed in and the view would have been similar to flying out of HKG on a cloudy day! Next year definitely on my list!

NTarrantParticipantSecond all the above, although if you want to do some sightseeing a bit different. Take the S1 bus to Tung Chung (every 10 mins) then either take the 23 or cable car to the big Buddha. Or do the other way around, nice scenery and something a bit different.
I was in The Wing yesterday, nice but service was slow and although I asked for spring rolls I got samosas which were ok. It is a long way to the gates if you have 31 upwards.
