I usually come here ranting about poor service etc. So for change lets take a minutes and praise some of the really great crew who take care of during our flights.

I would like to start this off, I was doing my regular commute from Manchester to London, there was a really noisy man sitting in row 1. Throughout the safety demo he laughing and joking about the crew member standing about 3 feet away, he was being very inappropriate with his comments, which could easily be heard a few rows back. The crew member politely asked if he could keep the noise to a minimum during the safety briefing. He went into such an abusive rant at the crew member she nearly ended up in tears. I ended up giving her my business card and offering to be a witness. So, good on you keep up the good work. BA should be honoured to have such a great member of staff working for them.

I am sure there are plenty of examples of good practice, we only ever seem to report the bad, so for a change how about giving praise to some of the excellent staff we come across on our travels.

Jeffery, thanks for posting. I like your post and your thread.

And about your story from the Manchester / London flight, that’s a shocker, especially the “abusive rant at the crew member” and also so sorry to read that “she nearly ended up in tears”. I’m glad to see you stood up for the flight attendant, and offered to help her.

Forgive me if I am missing something but you do refer to ” lots of peroxide blond hair in evidence”
This was not an attack on your article I was simply highlighting the need for us to give praise for these people who look after us.
I take your point about the name will remove it immediatley.

If I have upset you I am truly sorry. If you read back over past reviews they tend to focus on negative points. As I said this was not an attack on your article I was simply trying to get some more positive feedback for these great people who look after us. I did not say your article was insulting in any way towards the crew. So once again I am sorry if I have upset you. It was certainly not my intention.

I would say from my experience 80% of crew are good, the rest indifferent or rude. I would say that on the whole I find BA amongst the best, IB not as good, albeit getting better as the IAG culture changes bed in. The worse I have to say from my recent experience was AA, I found them pretty patronising, and I was in First.

I think with some of the ignoramouses they have to put up with cabin crew generally do an excellent job. Always worth remembering that they are there to help us in an emergency, not just serve (or take the money!).

Indeed MrM. Like most companies the vast majority of BA staff do a good job, often with limited resources, but are undermined by the few that are just there for a pay-check. Not helped by outsourcing which means there is no real ownership in many areas.

Plus I think to be honest, social perceptions have changed and air travel (and associated jobs) doesn’t have the glamour of 50 years ago.

Sadly it happens in many walks of life, for example 50 years ago the bank manager was a pillar of the community, these days their standing is somewhat lower.

Doesn’t mean people should be treated badly though.

Your description of the circumstances beg the question that if the passenger was that abusive..

    1. why wasn’t the fight deck informed and the pax turfed off, even if it meant going back to the gate

    2. what was the reaction of the other crew

Being told to ‘belt up’ during the safety briefing (which I wish the crew would do more often) is one thing, but being abusive to crew is something that should have been taken very seriously and not just by a pax giving the crew member a business card to be a witness..

Am I missing something? I can’t see where JD criticised one of FDOS’s posts!

Such behaviour as described by JD is always bad and I’m also surprised he wasn’t deplaned, but then perhaps the aircraft had already left the gate. I always wonder why people are like that and feel the need to be abusive. I think they want to project their power in a situation where they can’t be answered back.

    @LuganoPirate.

I have since removed a paragraph from my originally thread. So apologies it it is misleading.

LP – yet another case where the OP has modified the first post when challenged I’m afraid.

The original version claimed something along the lines of FDOS review being focused on hydrogen peroxide (which was nonsense).

What started as a positive and uplifting thread has descended somewhat, so taking the post as I see it, I just want to say + 1 to Jeffreydavison and his tribute, and also to Lugano Pirate for ALWAYS being such a pleasant, articulate, informed, fair and humorous poster.
