Long time reader, first time poster here.

I was hoping to have some feedback from regular flyers on how to best spend Qantas points. I have approximately 250k points (each x 2 passengers, therefore 500k points) to play with for a trip planned to South America from Sydney – itinerary in mind looks something in the order:
    Syd>Santiago>Rio>Mexico or Carib>Miami>LA>SYD.

I noticed on qantas that you are allowed 5 free stop overs but cannot figure out how to secure a stop over using their classic rewards system.

I tend to book point to point and not multi city, therefore would greatly appreciate any assistance. Ideally seeking minimum Syd LAX/Santiago in Premium Eco or higher and I am OK with Eco all other segments.

Time frame is roughly July 2016 (have to book that far ahead for work). I love planning segments but totally unfamiliar with South America and the Carrib.

Not sure about Qantas as I don’t fly them, but generally with BA and Swiss/Lufthansa, I find the best value is to use them for one class upgrades.

Is there an Oz equivalent of “Headforpoints” which is the bible for anything to do with Avios collection and redemption? If there is, that will give you everything you need to plan how to max out on your QF points.
