British Airways has unveiled its renovated lounge at Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

A six-month refurbishment project has seen a new bar being built, the addition of a quiet room with daybeds, a redesigned entrance with floor to ceiling glass, and new printing facilities.

The 360sqm facility features seating ranging from sofas to clusters of tables and chairs, and there is artwork by local artists throughout the lounge.

BA has also partnered with Akoje Gallery – which was founded by British rugby player Maro Itoje and Khalil Akar – to curate a rotating in-lounge exhibition celebrating guest artists.

The first theme is ‘New Beginnings’, and features paintings by Olawunmi Banjo and Qozeem Abdul Rahman, and a metal sculpture by Steve Ekpenisi.

A self service dining area features dishes such as Chicken Akara, meat skewers, jollof rice, lasagne, Greek salad, bagels, sausage rolls and cakes.

Guests travelling in First will also be offered Champagne and canapes at the new bar.

BA currently operates a daily Boeing 787-10 flight between Heathrow and Lagos, departing London at 1150 and arriving at 1815, before returning at 2245 and landing back into Heathrow at 0525 the following day.

The Lagos lounge renovations were first announced at the carrier’s showcase event earlier this year, where BA also unveiled plans for new lounges in Dubai and Miami, and a refresh of the airline’s existing facility in Seattle.

Commenting on the news Calum Laming, British Airways’ chief customer officer, said:

“We’re focused on investing in the entire customer journey, not just on board. For many of our customers, lounges are an important part of their experience, and the re-design of our Lagos lounge is a key part of our transformation strategy across our lounges around the world.

“We’re delighted to open our doors to this stunning lounge in Lagos and we’re confident customers will enjoy spending time in this cleverly created space.”
