Starboard Hotels has reopened its ibis property close to Gatwick Airport, following a three-year, £14 million renovation and expansion project.

The former ibis London Gatwick Airport closed in 2021 following a fire at the premises, and now features an additional floor and a total of 182 rooms, as well as a fitness centre and 130-cover restaurant.

Located on London Road around 3.5 miles from the airport, the property is now trading as ibis Styles London Gatwick Airport.

The hotel also now features a ‘Wanderlust’ theme, including artwork and a vintage Fiat 500 in the lobby area.

It seems to be something of a trend to place a car in hotel public areas – recent examples include a red Mini Cooper at the Radisson RED London Heathrow, and a Ford 100E at Ruby Zoe.

Other facilities of the ibis Styles London Gatwick Airport include airport departure and arrival screens, a shuttle bus and park-and-fly services, 50-inch TVs in guestrooms, free wifi, and breakfast served from 0400.

Commenting on the news Paul Callingham, Starboard Hotels chairman and founder, said:

“This is an important, landmark moment for Starboard as we open the new Ibis Styles Gatwick following an ambitious, three year refurbishment programme.

“Our teams, including the architects and contractors, have worked hard to develop and deliver an exceptional hotel with state of the art facilities including sustainability features that really matter to today’s modern traveller.

“We are proud to offer guests a fantastic place to stay in relaxing and pleasant surroundings and are excited for the future with clear ambitions to grow the Starboard business.

“The opening of the Ibis Styles Gatwick is an important milestone for our business as we look to the future growth and expansion of the Starboard brand.”
