IHG Hotels and Resorts has launched a new service enabling guests to automatically connect to wifi when arriving at any of more than 5,000 properties worldwide.

Customers can opt in to the ‘Wi-Fi Auto Connect’ feature through the IHG One Rewards app – a one-time set-up is required where the user enables auto connection via settings, and from then on the device will automatically access individual hotels’ wifi connection without the need for manual log-in or a password.

To put the feature in context, IHG says that it currently logs more than 5.3 million monthly wifi log-ins.

The new service is part of the group’s improved app for Apple and Android devices, including a new lock screen widget feature on iOS devices allowing guests to see their points balance and upcoming stays, and booking features allowing guests to select room enhancements during booking, including rooms with specific views or more space.

Commenting on the news Brian McGuinness, senior vice president, global guest experience, IHG Hotels and Resorts, said:

“We know that our guests expect seamless instant connectivity and convenience, especially when it comes to wifi.

“At IHG, we are constantly looking for ways to enhance the guest experience, and IHG Wi-Fi Auto Connect is just one example of how we’re doing that.

“The solution will deliver IHG One Rewards members with even better connectivity and a seamless experience across 5,000+ hotels around the world.”
