Earlier this week, Qatar Airways resumed services to Bahrain from Doha with a daily flight between the two destinations.
QR1108 departs from Hamad International airport at 8pm, and arrives at Bahrain International airport at 8.50pm. QR1109 then leaves from Bahrain at 10.20pm and lands back in Doha at 11.15pm.
The airline said that while initially there is only one daily flight, two more daily services will commence from June 15.
In March this year, Qatar Airways announced a raft of new routes and resumptions. The seven new destinations that it planned to launch this year include Chittagong (Bangladesh), Juba (South Sudan), Kinshasa (Democratic Republic of Congo), Medan (Indonesia), Trabzon (Türkiye) and both Lyon and Toulouse in France.
Additionally, the airline will resume flights to 11 destinations including Beijing, Birmingham, Buenos Aires, Casablanca, Davao (Philippines), Marrakech, Nice, Osaka, Phnom Penh, Ras Al Khaimah and Tokyo Haneda.
The airline recently now received its second Boeing 737-8, and will receive the remaining seven aircraft by the end of July. The carrier added that the 737-8s will add capacity to drive growth especially in short-haul markets, and will be expanded from the Doha-Kuwait-Doha route to other nations particularly in the GCC.
Whilst the Boeing 737-8 will operate on shorter sectors, Qatar Airways said that it will also alternate that aircraft with Boeing 777s and Airbus A350s depending on demand and capacity on those short-haul routes.
It has previously indicated that it expects the Airbus A380 aircraft to be operational for three years, after which it will be retired as other aircraft come into service.
As for its long-haul services, the airline will re-introduce a direct flight to Auckland from Doha on September 1 and which will be operated seven times a week. That flight, operated using an Airbus A350-1000, will be one of the world’s longest at 15 hours and 55 minutes on the outbound and 17 hours and 15 minutes on the inbound.
The summer 2023 schedule will see more than 655 weekly flights compared to the same period last year.
