Design Hotels has partnered with social enterprise EARNT to encourage its customers to make more environmentally conscious choices when travelling.

The hotel collection is organising a paddle boarding and litter-picking session on the River Thames in London on May 29, with participants earning limited-edition experiences at Design Hotels across the world in return.

The ‘Pick and Paddle’ event will last for two hours, with sign-ups opening for the 20 places on April 26. Ahead of this date, customers can sign up to the EARNT newsletter so they receive an alert.

Participants will be able to win the following stays and experiences:

  • Ten complimentary two-night stays at participating Design Hotels in Paris, Provence, Berlin, Munich and Rotterdam
  • Dinner for two and an overnight stay at Town Hall Hotel in London’s Bethnal Green
  • A two-night stay for two including breakfast at Sir Adam or Sir Albert Hotel in Amsterdam
  • Dinner for two and a night at the Soho Film Club courtesy of Firmdale’s ‘The Soho Hotel’
  • An overnight stay for two and Champagne breakfast at Market Street Hotel in Edinburgh
  • A holistic wellness experience at Inhabit London

The stays and experiences will be drawn during a post-paddle lunch at plant-based restaurant Yeotown at B-corp recognised hotel Inhabit Southwick Street, a member of Design Hotels.

Commenting on the partnership with Design Hotels, EARNT co-founders Lauren Scott-Harris and Lavinia Liyanage said:

“We are extremely proud to be partnering with Design Hotels. EARNT is a brand-new concept and we are working with brands who are not only best in class, but who are not afraid to challenge and lead the way brands interact with their customers to make an actual impact.”

Sarah Doyle VP, Global Brand Leader at Design Hotels, continued:

“We’re so pleased to partner with EARNT and Gary on this industry-first collaboration. We’re always looking for new ways to inspire our community to make conscious choices to protect our planet, and by collaborating with EARNT we’re able to meet our London community and celebrate the joy travel, while having a positive impact on our local environment.”

Participants can join a wait list once the 20 spaces are filled, though Design Hotels notes that previous activations have been fully booked in under two hours with long waiting lists.

EARNT launched in 2022 to encourage people to donate their time to a positive social or environmental cause. It describes itself as creating “a brand new type of VIP – those that do good for the planet or society”.

Founded in 1993, Design Hotels comprises over 300 independent hotels in more than 60 countries. In 2019 the company joined forces with Marriott Bonvoy, allowing guests to earn and redeem points at selected properties.
