Meliá Hotels International is set to open its first hotel in Lisbon under its ME by Meliá brand in 2024.

Currently under construction, ME Lisbon will be located on the corner of the downtown avenues of Antonio Augusto de Aguiar and Fontes Pereira de Melo, alongside the Eduardo VII Park and Marquês de Pombal Square.

The 213-room hotel has been designed by Portuguese architect João Paciência and will feature a semi-transparent glass façade, with interior design by Broadway Malyan studio drawing inspiration from the local surroundings, such as the arches or colour of the trees on the Avenida da Liberdade.

Facilities will include an all-day à la carte restaurant, the brand’s Radio Rooftop Bar, a gym, spa and health club including an indoor pool, sauna, Turkish bath and massage cabins.

The hotel will offer more than 600 sqm of space for meetings and events across 11 flexible and adaptable rooms. Sustainable technology will also be incorporated into the property to minimise its environmental footprint.

ME Lisbon will join Meliá’s two existing hotels in the city, and be accompanied by the first INNSiDE property which is also scheduled to open next year.

There are currently just a handful of ME by Melia properties in locations including Dubai, Milan, London, Ibiza, Madrid, Barcelona and Cabo San Lucas in Mexico.

The brand is set to open three additional hotels in 2023 and 2024 in Malaga, Malta and Mexico’s Guadalajara.

Last year the hotel group announced plans to expand its luxury portfolio by 40 per cent by 2025.
