Aegean Airlines has launched routes from Athens to Birmingham and Bristol, adding to existing UK destinations including Edinburgh, Gatwick (seasonal), Heathrow and Manchester.

As previously reported the Greek airline is returning to Birmingham after a gap of five years, with a twice-weekly service operating on Tuesdays and Fridays.

Aegean is the seventh Star Alliance carrier serving Birmingham airport.

Meanwhile the airline has also launched twice-weekly flights between Athens and Bristol, operating on Mondays and Fridays.

Commenting on the news service Dave Lees, CEOof Bristol Airport, said:

“This is an incredibly exciting milestone for Bristol Airport adding Aegean Airlines to the Bristol Airport airline family.

“Aegean Airlines is a major global airline and this decision shows confidence in the region. The regular scheduled service between Bristol and Athens opens up a wide range of European and worldwide connections to our customers.

“We are delighted to be collaborating with Aegean Airlines and further exciting route opportunities for the future.“

Aegean joins easyJet on the Bristol-Athens route.

The Greek carrier is also set to launch seasonal flights between Athens and Newcastle this summer.

The service will operate between June 14 and September 17, with two flights per week on Wednesdays and Sundays.
