Marriott International has signed an agreement with Rua Al Madinah Holding Company – a Public Investment Fund (PIF) company – to open eight hotels in the city of Madinah in Saudi Arabia. The properties will be located close to the Prophet’s Mosque, Al Masjid An Nabawi.

The hotels will cumulatively feature approximately 4,400 rooms across eight of Marriott’s brands – The Ritz-Carlton, JW Marriott, Marriott Hotels, Westin Hotels and Resorts, Le Méridien Hotels and Resorts, Four Points by Sheraton, Aloft Hotels, and Courtyard by Marriott.

The Ritz-Carlton, Rua Al Madinah will offer 151 rooms and suites including a signature Ritz-Carlton suite, multiple dining concepts, a 500 sqm ballroom, an expansive fitness centre and Ritz Kids space.

JW Marriott Rua Al Madinah will in turn feature 252 guestrooms and suites, a fitness centre and meeting room facilities.

Madinah Marriott Hotel Rua Al Madinah will be a 450-key property, while Le Méridien Rua Al Madinah will be slightly larger and feature 533 guestrooms and suites, and three dining concepts alongside a host of recreation and meeting facilities.

Meanwhile, The Westin Rua Al Madinah will comprise 361 rooms and suites, three dining outlets, a fitness centre, a kids club, and meeting facilities. Four Points by Sheraton Rua Al Madinah will have 777 rooms and apartments, two all-day dining concepts, meeting facilities, and a fitness centre.

The Aloft Rua Al Madinah and Courtyard by Marriott Rua Al Madinah are expected to offer a combined 1,810 rooms and suites, 1,100 sqm of meeting space facilities, alongside several dining and recreation options.

Marriott’s current portfolio in Saudi Arabia includes 36 properties and more than 10,000 rooms across 11 brands.

Saudi Arabia unveils master plan for Rua Al Madinah project

The previously announced masterplan for the Rua Al Madinah project in Madinah shows that the project is expected to cover 1.5 million sqm, including the addition of 47,000 new rooms by 2030. As much as 83,000 sqm of the project’s master plan will consist of green areas, with open and green spaces comprising 63 per cent of the project’s total land area.
