Air France is continuing the rollout of its new B777-300ER cabins, with Johannesburg the next destination to benefit from the carrier’s latest business, premium economy and economy seats.
The airline unveiled plans to retrofit 12 of its B777s in May last year, with New York JFK the first route to see the new products in January, followed by Rio de Janeiro and Dakar.
The flag carrier has now confirmed that Johannesburg will be the fourth route to benefit from the new cabins, from the start of the summer 2023 schedules on March 27.
The refitted B777-300ERs feature a new business class product which offers direct aisle access, a seat which convert into a bed “almost two metres long”, and sliding doors “to create a totally private space, out of sight from the other passengers in the cabin”.
The seats are configured in a 1-2-1 reverse herringbone layout, and also offer a 17.3-inch 4K HD anti-glare screen with Bluetooth connection for passengers wishing to use their own headsets, as well as “several electric sockets”.
The aircraft also feature Air France’s latest premium economy seat (already available on its A350 aircraft), with a total of 48 seats offering 96cm of legroom and a 124-degree recline, and 273 new economy seats offering “a wide 43 cm seat pan, a 119 degree recline and 79 cm of legroom”.
The retrofit programme means that by the end of 2023 all of the airline’s long-haul business class cabins will feature seats which convert into fully flat beds, compared to 90 per cent before the start of the project.
