Accor has announced plans to open a Mercure property in the Japanese capital.

Mercure Tokyo Hibiya will be housed within the existing Uchisaiwaicho Heiwa Building, close to JR Shimbashi and Uchisaiwaicho stations, and is scheduled to open in winter 2023.

Features will include 178 rooms, a restaurant with outdoor terrace and garden, a fitness centre, and an executive lounge with a theatre and cigar lounge.

Interiors will offer “a contemporary take on traditional theatre design elements” – a nod to the Yurakuza Theatre and The Imperial Theatre which were built in the Hibiya district in the 1920s.

Local attractions include Hibiya Park, the mixed use Tokyo Midtown Hibiya complex, and the 13-screen Toho Cinemas Hibiya.

There are currently around 810 Mercure properties worldwide across 60 countries, nine of which are located in Japan.

Accor currently operates 20 hotels across the country, with forthcoming projects including Fairmont Tokyo, and a dual-branded development in Osaka.

“We believe that the opening of Mercure Tokyo Hibiya will be a very important step for us and through this project with Heiwa Real Estate Co, Ltd, we will be able to continue providing a memorable and locally-inspired hotel experience to local and international guests alike.”
