Virgin Hotels has opened its latest property in New York, located in the city’s NoMad (North of Madison Square Park) neighbourhood.

The newest addition to the Virgin Hotels collection is located at 1227 Broadway and takes up a block between 29th Street and 30th Street.

The 460-room hotel features design by Brooklyn-based firm MarkZeff and architecture from Stantec, with nods to the Virgin brand including a red staircase connecting the third and fourth floors, and Nigel Sussman’s play on ‘Where’s Wally’ with the lobby mural ‘Where’s Richard?’.

The rooms (or ‘chambers’) range from 26-72 sqm and include floor-to-ceiling windows with views of the cityscape, with some rooms overlooking the Empire State Building. The rooms include Virgin’s layout of two separate spaces: The Dressing Room, which includes a vanity desk with a mirror, wardrobe and a shower with a bench; and The Lounge with a lounge bed, red SMEG mini-fridge, smart TV, yoga mat and a table.

Guests can adjust various room controls via the Virgin Hotels’ mobile app Lucy and sensor-activated lighting automatically turns on when they walk by.

Dining facilities include the 372 sqm dining and drinking venue Everdene, an indoor-outdoor space which occupies the entire third floor of the hotel and offers seasonal menus, craft cocktails and live entertainment. There is also a Pool Club on the fourth floor, exclusive to hotel guests, a business centre, gym and more than 1,765 sqm of meetings and events space on the 38th and 39th floors.

The fourth floor will welcome a fine dining restaurant concept with Italian and Latin cuisine in the coming months.

Sir Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, commented:

“We’ve wanted to open a hotel in New York City since Virgin Atlantic first flew here in 1984. We have had so many milestones in this city, from opening America’s biggest record store to driving a tank through Times Square to lighting up the Empire State Building. I’m looking forward to even more adventures in the city and having a place to call home at the end of the day. I’m so proud of the amazing team behind Virgin Hotels New York, they have created something beyond my wildest dreams. Can’t wait to show you all!”
