United Airlines has confirmed the return of its popular ice cream sundae cart from next month.
The cart had been a staple of the carrier’s business class service for many years, with customers able to choose from various toppings and sauces to create their own sundae.
It was suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic in favour of pre-packed ice cream, but is being reintroduced as airlines worldwide steadily return to their full inflight services.
As reported by simpleflying.com the sundae cart is already available on selected flights departing San Francisco since, but United has now confirmed on its social media pages that the service will be extended to all long-haul routes from February.
The image at the top of this article was taken by a Business Traveller employee during a United Airlines flight review in 2017, when they said of the sundae cart:
“I confess, a child-like excitement overcame me when choosing the toppings, and I opted for the whole shebang: fudge, caramel, strawberry and oreo flakes.”
Most airlines have now returned to a full inflight ding experience, although it has taken some longer than others.
Virgin Atlantic highlighted the return of welcome drinks and hand plated main meals in Upper Class in March 2021, while it took until late last year before British Airways returned to its full dining experience in Club World, with individual courses once again being served individually, including hot soups and warm desserts.
