US rail operator Brightline has revealed design plans for its new station at Orlando International Airport (MCO). The 37,350-square-foot station, which is scheduled to open later this year, is housed in the Intermodal Terminal Facility adjacent to the recently opened Terminal C.

The facility will connect Orlando to Brightline’s 170 mile network of high-speed rail services to key destinations throughout Florida, including Miami, Aventura, Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton and West Palm Beach.

The three-storey station welcomes passengers through the main entrance, located off the airport’s expansive two-story glass atrium, directly connected to the airport’s parking deck C, where travelers will find more than 350 parking spaces reserved for Brightline guests.

Once inside the station, the design includes an open area with a guest services desk and several self-service kiosks, where passengers can purchase tickets and check luggage.

From there, they can proceed through touchless turnstiles into the security screening area. According to Brightline, the carrier is currently the only rail system in America that screens all passengers and bags prior to boarding.

The station includes an upscale retail experience with convenient in-station shopping. The centerpiece of the design at the far end of the station is the Mary Mary Bar, serving hand-crafted cocktails and lite bites, along with a panoramic view overlooking the train platform.

Above the Mary Mary bar is a nostalgic nod to train stations of the past, an iconic flip-flap message board that rotates alphanumeric text and/or graphics to provide updated train schedules, boarding times and other announcements.

Brightline offers two classes of service, Smart and Premium. The Premium service includes an exclusive first class lounge with complimentary drinks and snacks, as well as onboard in a dedicated train coach.

Free high-speed wifi is available throughout the station, and every seat has charging ports. There are 87 big screen televisions around the facility and a children’s play area is located in the Smart lounge.

Passengers access trains by escalator or elevators to the first level platform and board from one of two track platforms. An automated people mover connects the terminal to the rest of the airport facilities including Terminal A and B in under five minutes.

Orlando Airport’s Intermodal Terminal Facility is designed to handle up to four rail systems, including Brightline services and the airport’s Terminal Link. “This state-of-the-art terminal is leading the way to a truly intermodal future for all of Central Florida,” commented Kevin Thibault, CEO of the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority.
