Hilton has announced plans to bring its Motto brand to the UK, with a Glasgow property set to open in 2024.

There are currently few details on the hotel, but what is known is that the 186-room Motto by Hilton Glasgow will be situated on the banks of the River Clyde, and will feature interiors with “Art Noveau references and Mackintosh-inspired designs”.

The property is also understood to be part of the same development which will house the forthcoming Virgin Hotels Glasgow – the CGI image provided for both projects would seem to agree with this.

Reservations open for Virgin Hotels Glasgow

The Motto by Hilton brand was launched in 2018, and was described at the time as an affordable chain of micro-hotels in urban centres, combining a hostel vibe with private rooms and hotel perks.

The first property was originally scheduled to open in London’s Marylebone in 2020, but the hotel is not currently listed on the brand’s website hilton.com/en/motto, and it has been reported that the project is no longer going ahead.

There are currently five Motto properties in operation – Motto by Hilton Washington DC City Center, Motto By Hilton Philadelphia Rittenhouse Square, Motto by Hilton New York City Chelsea, Motto by Hilton Tulum, and Motto by Hilton Rotterdam Blaak.

A second New York hotel – Motto by Hilton New York City Times Square – is currently scheduled to open in April 2023.

Commenting on the news Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton, said:

“We are excited about the arrival of the Motto by Hilton brand in the UK. The hotel will cater to a range of guests, whether travelling for work or play, solo or in a group, with innovative new features such as multi-use group spaces and multiple connecting rooms.

“It will give guests the freedom and flexibility to customise their stay in this celebrated Scottish city – and will pave the way for future properties in the UK as we grow the Motto by Hilton brand into vibrant city locations.”
