Marriott International has announced plans to bring its luxury St Regis brand to Australia.

The St Regis Gold Coast Resort will form part of the $1.7 billion La Pelago project within the city’s Budds Beach precinct, and will feature 185 rooms and suites, as well as a specialty restaurant and signature St Regis Bar, a sky bar, lounge and spa facilities.

The property is slated to open in 2027, and will occupy the first tower of the La Pelago development – a mixed use complex which will also offer luxury residences and 5,500 sqm of international hospitality and retail.

The St Regis Gold Coast Resort will be Marriott’s fourth property on the Gold Coast, joining the JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort and Spa which opened in 2020, and the recently announced Ritz-Carlton Gold Coast.

Commenting on the news Richard Crawford, vice president hotel development, Australia, New Zealand, and Pacific for Marriott International, said:

“This signing of The St Regis Gold Coast Resort in Australia is momentous for Marriott International, and a wonderful advancement for the destination. The St Regis brand promises a vanguard spirit steeped in history and tradition and is synonymous with global luxury.

“We appreciate Gurner Group’s confidence in selecting St Regis as the centerpiece of its world-class mixed-use development. Their well-earned reputation for excellence and vision for the Gold Coast aligns exceptionally well with the very high standards we set for every St. Regis hotel around the world and we look forward to bringing to life an iteration of the brand that is modern, aspirational, and befits the lifestyle and energy of the Gold Coast.”

Earlier this year it was announced that The Westbury hotel in London’s Mayfair is to become a St Regis property.

A spokesperson for Marriott told Business Traveller that the hotel would be rebranded as The St Regis London following a £90 million transformation.
