IHG Hotels and Resorts has celebrated the opening of its first dual-branded property in Chicago.

Voco Chicago Downtown and Holiday Inn Chicago Downtown – Wolf Point are located in the city’s River North district.

Formerly a Holiday Inn, the property underwent extensive renovations by developer Murphy Real Estate Services. It has now reopened with 521 rooms across ten floors of the historic building, and is directly attached to the city’s well-known Merchandise Mart, which was the world’s largest building when it opened in 1930.

The rooms include eco-friendly bedding, a Nespresso coffee maker, reusable glass bottles and an ergonomic workstation.

The 15th floor is now home to a “soaring atrium”, modern event spaces and a new restaurant. Waterview Kitchen and Bar offers global cuisine along with Chicago favourites amid floor-to-ceiling views of the Chicago River and skyline. The bar also puts on a weekday Happy Hour.

The property has over 2,300 sqm of meetings and events space, including two ballrooms with full-height windows and a grand ballroom on a private floor. Leisure facilities include a 24-hour fitness centre equipped with Peloton bikes, a sauna and a heated indoor pool.

This marks the debut of the Voco brand in Chicago and the sixth in the United States.

Ginger Taggart, VP Voco hotels, IHG Hotels and Resorts, said:

“With Chicago a perennially popular destination, we recognised an opportunity to cater to the increasing traveler demand for accommodations that offer reliability, comfort, convenience, and modern amenities.

“Blending the trusted hospitality that Holiday Inn is known for with Voco hotels’ thoughtful, unstuffy, and charming style under one roof, the new property is an ideal destination for visitors to Chicago.”

The Voco brand launched in 2018, and has 41 properties open worldwide so far, with an additional 34 in the pie-lien including the upcoming Voco Guadalajara Naruda, Voco Dubai the Palm and Voco Avignon – Le Bristol.
