Austrian Airlines has launched a new pre-order meal service for economy passengers on short and medium-haul flights.
Customers can now pre-order meals when travelling on flights of 50 minutes or longer, both to and from Vienna.
The Austrian Melangerie Pre-order service is available between one month and 48 hours before departure, with passengers able to order up to five meals online at austrian.com/at/en/austrian-melangerie, and cashless payment being made inflight.

Austrian said that choices range from hot meals and sandwiches to snacks and beverages, with examples given including vegetarian wraps and Wiener Schnitzel.
The move follows last year’s launch of Austrian’s buy-on-board service for economy class passengers on flights lasting up to three hours.
It also follows the launch of a similar pre-order service by sister carrier Swiss earlier this year.

Commenting on the news Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl said:
“With Austrian Melangerie Pre-order we offer our passengers on short-haul and medium-haul flights an additional plus in service.
“At the same time, pre-ordering is an important step towards more sustainability and combating food waste due to enhanced planning.”
