The outletcity has a rich history as it is where the history of tanners was once written and today is home to exclusive premium fashion brands such as MCM, Michael Kors, Kate Spade, Aigner or Ted Baker. The location known today as City Mall was before the place to work for future tanners. Here the leather and glove manufacturer A. Gänslen jr. established his company in 1888, when hides were converted to leather using alum and salt through a process called tawing in. Tawer journeymen from all parts of Germany acquired their trade in Metzingen. After the manufacturer‘s insolvency, one of Metzingen’s first supermarkets opened at the location around 1970, which since the turn of the millennium has been redeveloped in several phases to become today’s City Mall as a part of Outletcity Metzingen.The location now also serves as the home of their beauty labels, The Cosmetics Company and Babor.
