Hyatt has opened the first property under its Unbound Collection in Japan.

The 120-room Fuji Speedway Hotel is situated about 80 minutes from Tokyo, close to the Fuji Speedway motorsport race track and against a backdrop of Japan’s iconic Mount Fuji.

Facilities include all-day Italian trattoria-style eatery Trofeo, interactive Japanese dining experience Robata Oyama, Bar 4563, Omika Wellness and Spa with indoor pool, indoor and outdoor hot spring onsens, spa and fitness centre, and a pillarless ballroom and function space with show kitchen.

The hotel also features a driving simulator, and houses the Fuji Motor Sports Museum, which showcases “story-worthy and era-defining racing cars dating from the end of the 19th century”.

Hyatt launched The Unbound Collection in 2016, which it describes as “a portfolio of new and existing upper-upscale hotel properties, ranging from historic urban gems to contemporary trend-setters, boutique properties to resorts and private home accommodations”.

Recent additions include Tornabuoni Hotel in Florence, Hotel du Palais Biarritz, Magma Resort Santorini, and La Zambra hotel on Spain’s Costa del Sol.

Commenting on the news David Udell, group president, Asia Pacific, Hyatt Hotels Corporation, said:

“We are truly honoured that Toyota Fudosan Co., Ltd., an affiliate of the Toyota Group, has chosen Hyatt and The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand as a key component of their Fuji Motorsports Forest project – the first hotel that Toyota has developed in collaboration with Hyatt.

“With the much-anticipated reopening of Japan’s borders, Fuji Speedway Hotel will provide overseas visitors and local residents with a memorable, one-of-a-kind experience, blending the excitement of motorsports and the luxury of a boutique hotel in the beautiful countryside.”

Last month Hyatt announced it had entered into a joint venture with Japanese firm Kiraku, which will see the opening of a collection of modern-style hot spring ryokans “set amongst breathtaking landscapes”.
